The Mother’s Day gifts we really want

As Mother’s Day approaches, the question arises, “What would you like to do?”

While homemade cards, macaroni necklaces, and breakfast in bed are cherished, there’s one gift you may be hesitant to ask for—time out from the daily responsibilities of motherhood.

A day to yourself, with no one needing anything from you, may seem like an impossible dream. But it shouldn’t be! So, we’re here to say don’t be afraid to ask for the gift of time this Mother’s Day.

Motherhood can be relentless, and asking for time out is not selfish—it’s a necessity. We’ve compiled some ideas to inspire you to take that well-deserved break and enjoy some “me time” this Mother’s Day.

Time with friends

Mothers are constantly caring for their families and ensuring everything is running smoothly. But all too often, we forget to take time for ourselves, especially when it comes to catching up with our friends.

When was the last time you had a day to relax, hang out with your besties, and just let loose without worrying about the million things you have to do at home? It’s probably been a while, right?

That’s why asking for the gift of time with your friends is a fantastic idea this Mother’s Day.

Imagine enjoying a morning of shopping followed by a coffee and lunch, chatting, and laughing about everything and nothing at all. No interruptions from the kids and no to-do list— just a bit of retail therapy, good food, and great company.

You’ll come home feeling refreshed, recharged, and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.

A day of self-care

Hands up if active wear has become your daily uniform, with your hair pulled back in a bun to complete the look?

You’re not alone.

Sometimes when you’re in the daily grind of motherhood, you can walk past the mirror and barely recognize the person staring back at you. Let’s be honest. Looking glamorous is not generally part of the job description, and finding the time to get to the hair or nail salon can be challenging when caring for little ones. But you deserve to take some time out for self-care, and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make it happen.

So, talk to your family about a day of relaxation and organize an appointment at the salon, book a massage, or check into a day spa and enjoy being pampered.

A weekend away

A weekend away gives you a chance to enjoy a peaceful environment, free from any stress or responsibility. Picture yourself lounging by the pool, binging on your favorite television series, or reading that book you’ve wanted to read for ages.

And when it comes to food, you don’t have to worry about anyone else’s dietary needs. You could head to a fancy restaurant or order room service in your bathrobe. The possibilities are endless, and it’s all up to you.

It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of everyday life, but a weekend away allows you to take a step back, recharge your batteries and indulge in some much-needed relaxation.

Netflix and comfort food

If finances are tight and a weekend away or a trip to the spa isn’t an option, don’t worry. Creating a sanctuary in your bedroom can be just as rejuvenating.

Organize your favorite comfort food, take a long warm bath, and then slip into your coziest pajamas. Once you’re curled up in bed, tune into a Netflix series you’ve been dying to watch or get lost in a good book. And try to put your phone away—this is your time to unwind and recharge.

To make the most of your sanctuary, ensure everyone knows you are off duty for the day. Ask your partner to take care of the kids or enlist the help of a trusted friend. You deserve a day to yourself without any distractions or interruptions.

The gift of time

As mothers, we give our all to our families daily, and it can be easy to forget about caring for ourselves. But the truth is, we need time to recharge too. So don’t be afraid to ask for the gift of time this Mother’s Day.

And ignore the inevitable whisperings of mother guilt. Needing time to yourself does not mean you love your kiddos any less. In fact, by taking care of yourself, you are ensuring that you can continue to be the best mom possible. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

The team at My Sweet Sleeper would like to wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. We see you working tirelessly to care for your family, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
