Meal delivery for kids: A fun way to promote healthy eating.

Almost every parent knows the battle that occurs around the dinner table each evening– encouraging your kids to “Just eat one more bite”. “No, you may not have a cupcake until you eat half your broccoli”. “Please just try it you will like it, I promise”.

Getting our kids to eat healthily can be a major struggle for parents and often results in a showdown three times each day as you sit down to a meal. And to make matters more difficult, we all know what happens when our kiddos refuse to eat. They come to us right at bedtime in full starvation mode begging for a late-night snack, which in turn can affect their quality of sleep.

Enter Yumble

Yumble is a meal delivery service for kids that allows them to choose healthy meals that they will actually enjoy. As a bonus, you can even make it fun with extras like stickers and table topics.

If you are struggling to get your kids to eat their veggies, here is how you can help them build a healthy relationship with food.

Nutrition for Kids

Kids have unique nutritional needs that aren’t often supplied by mass-market frozen meals like highly-processed chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. They need food packed with tons of nutrients to give their bodies the building blocks necessary to keep growing.

The NHS Foundation Trust recommends that children have all of the following every day:

  • Fruits and vegetables

  • Cereals, potatoes, rice, and pasta

  • Meats and seafood (or alternatives)

  • Milk and dairy

  • Small amounts of fat and sugar

Of course, it isn’t as simple as just making sure your kids eat their broccoli at dinner. Mayo Clinic recommends that children at this age limit their added sugar, saturated and trans fats, and salt in their foods. They should have:

  • Five portions of fruits and veggies each day

  • A serving of cereals, potatoes, rice, or pasta at each meal (healthy carbs!)

  • Two servings of protein (aside from meat this could be beans, peas, eggs, lentils, nuts, or seeds

  • Three servings of dairy each day.

For lactose-intolerant children, soy products are a viable alternative to their dairy requirements.

An Example of Meals for a Day

Are you struggling to figure out how to implement all of these different types of foods into a daily diet? It doesn’t have to be as hard as it sounds as long as you are making the most of every meal and snack.

Breakfast can be as simple as a bowl of low-sugar cereal with milk, or one of Yumble’s delicious, nutrient-packed meals like their French-Toast Breakfast that includes cheesy eggs for an extra punch of protein and dairy to get the day started.

If your little one needs a snack between breakfast and lunch, this is another great time to squeeze in a serving of fruit in the form of a can of fruit or some carrots with dressing.

Lunch can be a sandwich made with whole wheat bread and meat or peanut butter spread. Or make your life extra easy and serve up the Better Butternut Chicken Dipper meal. It takes less than two minutes to prepare and hits a lot of those much-needed food groups with gluten-free organic nuggets, butternut cheese sauce, and organic green beans.

Dinner is a bit easier to squeeze in some protein with a main course like baked chicken, a pot roast, or an ever-popular favorite like spaghetti. And Yumble’s got you covered there too. The Cheesy Fusilli Gluten-Free Pasta and Broccoli meal is filled with even more hidden veggies and made with organic tomatoes. It’s microwavable making it a great option for those busy weeknights.

Offering a Solution for Even the Pickiest Eaters

We’ve all seen the meal delivery services–from ready-to-eat upon delivery to detailed instructions on how to cook it yourself–but they aren’t often kid-friendly. While there are pre-packaged meals we can buy at the grocery store, what about the fresh ingredients and the important nutrients they need to grow?

This is why we love Yumble.

Yumble is the only meal delivery service where kids pick their healthy meals, enjoy them, and get rewarded.

The brainchild of Yumble, Joanna Parker,  created this company to fulfill her passion for helping kids foster a positive relationship with food at an early age. She struggled with food at an early age herself. Once she became a parent, she was determined to help busy parents solve the dinner dilemma.

How It Works

The first thing you will have to do is choose your meals from the weekly menu. Include your little ones in this process. It gives them control over their food. Don’t worry, every option is both nutritious and delicious for your kids and comes ready to heat and eat.

They are delivered to you fresh in a sustainable box. And, as a bonus, Yumble also includes activities that can inspire your family to spend more time around the table.

At mealtime, all you have to do is heat them in the microwave for less than two minutes. This makes them ideal for school lunches or an easy weeknight dinner. They even suffice for a great and nutritious snack.

With back-to-school just around the corner, the time to Yumble is now.
