In the last two weeks we’ve found ourselves smack dab in the middle of several Toddler transitions! ✨ 
Suddenly our Toddler is showing interest in potty training AND started climbing out of his crib, in the same week 😬
✨
The timing of these transitions can be as obvious as our situation, but can also be more subtle, leaving parents questioning whether or not their child is really ready! ✨
So how do you know if your child is ready to move from crib to bed?? Ask yourself these questions...

1) Are they jumping or climbing out of the crib? 
2) Are they asking for a new bed or suddenly becoming uncomfortable in their current space?
3) Are they 2+ years of age?? (Although age alone isn’t a reason to transition)

What does your child’s room say about sleep? .

As a night nanny I used to make many home visits and the first thing I did before even sitting down with the parents was look at the child’s sleep space. By just an initial glance I could usually tell whether the baby slept in that space consistently and if the room was used for other purposes
.

Why does that matter? Because we can’t even start talking about sleep related issues if the environment provided for sleep is part of the problem! .
.
It could be something as simple as the light exposure in your child’s room or the placement of the crib that is causing your child’s sleep disturbances, which are easily overlooked!

.
Often times parents go through sleep method after sleep method wondering why nothing is working, only to realize that the root of the issue hasn’t been addressed .
.
Some quick questions to ask...
*Are the colors in the room neutral? If not they could be overstimulating
*Are there a lot of toys and distracting objects?
*Is there light rays that is directly on your child’s crib or bed? .

Can you relate?! Coffee has to wait sometimes when you’re on a pumping/feeding schedule .
.
This week we were talking with one of our favorite pediatricians about when newborns start to sleep longer stretches and the importance of allowing them to do so! .
.
At about 5/6 weeks your baby has the capability of sleeping 4-6 hours at night and as long as there aren’t concerns about gaining weight then let that baby sleep! .
.
As a nursing Mama though waking up even four hours after a feed can feel a bit uncomfortable so rather than waking your baby to eat you can pump, even if it’s just for a few minutes. This may also help keep your milk supply up. .
.
Regardless of how you’re feeding making sure your baby has enough during the day will help get those longer stretches at night 🙌🏻
